Hawk and Venus If you haven't heard yet, Cannabis Culture Magazine has featured a wonderful article by Steven Scott called "The High Shamans of Soma." In the interview we discuss spiritual Soma, our thoughts on blending Soma and Cannabis, and much more.

The article opens with:

One sunny day in Lakeport, California I took an enjoyable smoke break along the sparkling shores of Clearlake. I was currently on my way to meet the authors of a book that can only be referred to as a mycological masterpiece.

And goes on to say...

The second edition of Sacred Soma Shamans is in stock and ready to ship. Formerly titled "Soma Shamans," this new edition features 38 pages of new material, including a new chapter of current Amanita information and four pages of beautiful full-color photos.

All summer we worked on revising Soma Shamans for a second edition. (Coming soon.) So today, we partied.

Hawk prepared a special ambrosia from a clan of Soma. There were four huge bulbs, connected at the roots. We'd never seen anything like it before. We drove five hours straight home to plant them, and they blossomed out still intact. We dried them all together and stored them in a big cannister and waited for a special occasion.

Hawk discovered there were even a couple of bonus babies hidden by the rest of the family. So tonight, our family had the privilege of celebrating with a Soma family for our annual Equinox ceremony. Hail Soma!

As you may already know, Entheogen Dot Com has recently featured our Secrets of Soma DVD on their website.

Entheogen Dot Com has been around for years. They're an online community for the psychoactive plant enthusiast (and we really dig their logo!).

Hawk and Venus have done a great job of fitting decades worth of personal knowledge and experience into one documentary to make it available to the world. Any Amanita aficionados who have not found what they are looking for in the scientific literature or in historical accounts should definitely check this out.

Soma and the Sun. Just thought I'd share that bit of inspiration from the Sama Veda.

Today, it was 100 degrees, so Hawk took a great frozen Formosa that looked like the sun and made a refreshing Soma Ambrosia drink. Much better than a mint julep for a hot summer day!

Hawk is designing and writing his book on nature mysticism, asceticism, ego-less consciousness, union with God, visionary consciousness and Soma consciousness. The yet untitled book is an entertaining, no-bullshit story on how to obtain higher consciousness through nature mysticism, asceticism and entheogenics. The first edition will be limited to 100 copies, at $150 each, signed by the author. It is scheduled for release in fifty days.

Vendors are using our name to make their products seem safe — despite warnings to the contrary — and to give the impression that they have our seal of approval. But we do not endorse, support or condone any sellers of Amanita mushrooms.

Vendors have repeatedly stolen extensive "excerpts" and "paraphrased" whole chapters from our book, Soma Shamans.

This is copyright theft in its lowest form. They only want to sell their product, and they don't care who gets hurt in the process.

We will not be responsible for any liabilities due to liver damage, psychotic episodes, hallucinations, severe vomiting and/or diarrhea from using spiritually contaminated, highly toxic or misidentified mushrooms from vendors.

It took us years of trial and error along with severe austerities and sacrifice to learn how to safely use Soma. This is no game. You must do it right or pay the consequences. We try to lead you away from danger -- they lead you right to it, selling Amanita that, in their own words, is "not meant for human consumption."

One of the main reasons we wrote Soma Shamans was so people could learn to pick and prepare their own personal supply of Amanita Muscaria and avoid dangerous vendors who sell toxic and spiritually contaminated mushrooms.

In our book, Sacred Soma Shamans, Hawk says:

"A large percent of the Amanita have a loss of potency when commercially picked, processed and shipped with only money in mind. The harmful energy they've been put through negates their finer vibration and activates a poisonous reaction within the mushroom's chemistry making it more toxic."

The pure spirit of Soma does not dwell in vendor grade mushrooms.

These vendors are just drug dealers masquerading as shamans. They're selling death and stealing our hard earned tips to convince people their poison is safe with a phony disclaimer such as "not meant to be consumed by any living organism."

But if that's true, why sell them next to stolen recipes from our book? Why rip-off whole chapters about consuming Amanita? Unless it's to make their product seem safe and trick people into thinking they have our blessing.

Even worse than the violation of our copyright is the danger this poses to the Soma community. Our chapters weren't just stolen, they were distorted, "paraphrased," and warped by greedy minds. They made slight changes in an effort to sell more and try to avoid litigation. This resulted in misinformation and recipes that are not only wrong, but dangerous.

Vendors sell potentially deadly Amanita Pantherina. While not as toxic as Virosa or Phalloides, we seriously warn not to risk a very bad trip on these high-wire 'shrooms. Bad as in bad acid or bad as in serious convulsions or even death. It is far easier to overdose on Pantherina than Muscaria. Yes, we have taken Pantherinas, but Hawk carefully checks and prepares them for us. Without being there to personally check them out, we can't condone the use of Pantherina.

Mushroom vendors also sell powdered Amanita, which could be anything -- even a dangerous mixture of several varieties including Phalloides, Pantherina and even the Destroying Angel Virosa. We've heard overdoses on these are exceptionally nasty. It's mushroom roulette -- If these salesmen cared about your safety they would never gamble with your life.

We've gotten many complaints lately about the toxic effects of bad mushrooms from vendors. One man feared permanent liver damage from a mushroom he now suspects wasn't Muscaria. He thought it was OK to buy them because he saw our name on the vendor site. He was wrong.

Many inspired by our website have asked to buy our Soma. They don't want to use vendors or try to pick or take Soma on their own. While we don't believe in mass-selling mail order Soma to strangers, we have begun taking reservations for a few personal Soma sessions guided by Master Soma Shaman Hawk -- who just happens to have gallons of primo-supreme Amanita Muscaria tea, Nectar of Heaven :)

Along with our Winter Soma journeys we also find time to collect another treasure of nature -- abalone shell. When the power is felt during correct astrological configurations, we take Soma and collect abalone shell pieces during stormy weather in isolated coves on the rugged Northern California coast.

Huge waves and high winds are part of the peril, for to get the high quality "super charged" shells, Hawk ventures down steep cliffs as torrential rains drench him to the core, for a life challenging adventure of extreme beach combing!

The iridescent beauty of abalone calms the mind and spirit and we find them invaluable for shamanic work.
